I am delighted to announce that an updated 270 page Bibliography to Man and Woman, One in Christ is available to view under Publications: Bibliography and that I will be presenting four lectures tomorrow, June 10, in Snoqualmie, WA, to ordained women in the Assemblies of God. The first session will answer the twelve most commonly alleged biblical reasons not to ordain women. The second session will argue that 1 Corinthians 11:2-16, “woman is not separate from man, nor is man separate from woman in the Lord” (11:11), specifically addresses leadership in prayer and prophecy. It will also show that the historical, literary, and cultural context of Galatians 3:28, as well as its wording, demands that “there is no male/female division in Christ Jesus” has practical application in the life of the church. The third session will examine the text of 1 Timothy 2:12 and argue that it does not permanently permit women from teaching or having authority over men. Instead, 2:12 is Paul’s specific instruction to Timothy in deal with a crisis of false teaching in Ephesus that specifically led women astray after Satan. To counter the deception of women, Paul gives a single directive, “I am not permitting a woman to assume to herself authority to teach a man that is not recognized as her authority by the church.” It does not limit the teaching of any woman, like Priscilla, who had recognized teaching authority, to teach men. In the final session, we will be looking at the Bible as God’s word to all people and considering such things as its statements about the gifts of the Spirit, the “one-another” passages, and that many commands to preach the gospel are directed to all eyewitnesses of Jesus’ resurrection, women as well as men.
